Meteorological Department Achieves Visualization of the Entire Radiosonde Process for the First Time
Recently, as dual-mode meteorological balloons ascended, floated, and descended at the Xilinhot National Comprehensive Meteorological Observation Base in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the “eyes” mounted on the meteorological balloons, —attitude sensors and a 360-degree panoramic high-definition camera, captured the motion attitude of the radiosonde instrument. This marks the first time that attitude data throughout the entire radiosonde process and stable panoramic imagery have been obtained, achieving the visualization of the radiosonde process. This development will provide more accurate radiosonde data for numerical forecasting and weather analysis.
This dynamic experiment, based on integrated attitude, was conducted by the China Meteorological Administration’s Meteorological Observation Center. The obtained radiosonde’s flight attitude data throughout the process not only serve as the basis for correcting humidity, temperature, and descent-phase wind measurement errors but also contribute to the technical reserves and support for the upgrade and replacement of meteorological radiosonde systems, including the Beidou navigation radiosonde.
Previously, the engineering prototype of the integrated-attitude Beidou navigation radiosonde was successfully developed, and after several tests and improvements, its accuracy, reliability, and communication capabilities continued to improve, ultimately being used in this experiment.
